Hammarby Lead at the Break, Then It Turns
Hammarby couldn’t have started this second leg any better. Paulos Abraham put them in front early, and at the break they were 1-0 up at Lotto Park, tie still level on aggregate from the 1-1 draw back in Stockholm. Genuinely good spot to be in. Didn’t last, though. Anderlecht came out for the second half and flipped the whole thing on its head.
Danylo Sikan leveled it just after the restart, finishing off a ball from Ali Maamar. 1-1. That’s really where the tie turned. Anderlecht kept coming, and midway through the half, substitute Mihajlo Cvetkovic just absolutely leathered one in from 35 yards. Ahead for the first time all night. Hammarby had no answer, and things only got worse from there.
Degreef Puts the Finishing Touch On
Deep into stoppage time, another sub got involved — Tristan Degreef, who’d only just come on for Sikan, drove one in from well outside the box. 3-1. Proper emphatic finish on what had been a tight, nervy tie right up until the hour mark. Hammarby threw on Frank Adjei and a few others trying to find a way back, but by then the game had completely gotten away from them.
What It Means Next
Anderlecht go through 4-2 on aggregate, a much smoother finish than the scoreline through 60 minutes suggested it’d be. For Hammarby, leading at the break and still walking away with nothing to show for it will sting — a tie that was there for the taking slipped away in the space of about twenty minutes.
