Quiet for Ages, Then All at Once
Looked like a tight one for most of the afternoon at Borås Arena. Sirius missed a penalty in the first half, then had to grind out the whole second half before finally getting through — but once they did, it wasn’t close anymore. Three goals inside eight minutes late on, 3-1 to the league leaders, and their gap at the top of Allsvenskan just got bigger.
Isak Bjerkebo had the chance to settle it early, stepped up for a penalty in the 21st minute. Saved. Stayed goalless. After that it was fairly cagey stuff — half-chances at both ends, Charlie Nildén tested the keeper midway through the first half, nothing really sticking. Elfsborg hadn’t won in over two months coming into this, but for long stretches you wouldn’t have known it. They held firm, frustrated a Sirius side that’s barely put a foot wrong all year.
Three Goals, Eight Minutes, Game Over
Then it just fell apart for them late. 82nd minute, Mohamed Soumah finishes off a Bjerkebo pass, 0-1. Two minutes after that, Robbie Ure doubles it — Bjerkebo again, his second assist of the day. Elfsborg got one back in the 88th, sort of — Sirius defender Oscar Krusnell put through his own net, 2-1, for whatever that’s worth at that stage. Barely mattered. Deep into stoppage time Ure grabbed his second goal of the game too, 1-3, and that was that.
Where This Leaves Things
Feels less like a title race at this point and more like a procession. Sirius are up to 35 points from just 13 games now, nine clear of second-placed Hammarby, and they haven’t gone a single league match all year without scoring. For a club that’s never even finished runner-up before, people are genuinely starting to talk about a first-ever title. Elfsborg stay on 18, still winless, still searching for whatever’s going to snap them out of it.
