Brittijn Strikes Early, Romeny Doubles It
Fast start from the home side. Four minutes in, Philip Brittijn punished some sloppy APOEL defending to put Fortuna ahead at their own ground. Got better before the break too — Ole Romeny pounced on a spilled save from the APOEL keeper, 2-0. Not bad at all for a first goal, especially on loan from Oxford United like he is.
Fortuna hadn’t been in great form coming in, lost 1-3 to Metz last time out, but you wouldn’t have known it watching the first half here. Romeny started up top next to Justin Hubner, Brittijn, Zeefuik and Ihattaren all getting minutes further forward too, and the front line looked properly sharp against an APOEL side that had also just lost, 0-2 to Pafos.
Sastre Pulls One Back, But Fortuna See It Out
APOEL got one back early in the second half. Sastre, 50th minute, 2-1, gave the away fans something to hang onto. Didn’t really threaten a comeback though. Fortuna managed the rest of it fine — Romeny came off in the 83rd after a good shift, Hubner stayed on the full ninety at the back.
What It Means Next
Solid response from Fortuna as pre-season winds down toward the new Eredivisie season, and Romeny’s early goal won’t hurt his confidence heading into a year where he’s expected to lead the line. For APOEL, second straight friendly defeat now — they’ll want to sort the defense out before their real season starts.
