Ihattaren Strikes Early, But Groningen Level Fast
Fortuna Sittard couldn’t have asked for a better start at Euroborg. Mohamed Ihattaren — once one of the biggest prospects in Dutch football — opened the scoring in the 12th minute. Groningen answered quick, though. They’d opened the season with wins over Utrecht and ADO Den Haag before getting hammered 5-1 at PSV the week before, so a response was needed. Fortuna made it 3-1 in the 72nd minute through Anthony Descotte, and for a while it looked completely under control. Then Groningen got a lifeline — Fortuna defender Justin Hübner turned one into his own net in the 87th minute, 3-2, and suddenly it was nervy again. Nils Eggens even had a golden chance to complete the comeback late on but couldn’t finish it. Fortuna held their nerve regardless and saw it out for their second win of the season.

Genuinely eye-catching result for Fortuna Sittard. Draw at PSV, comfortable win over Cambuur, a defeat to AZ that came with a red card working against them — now seven points from four games under Danny Buijs.
