A Game That Never Really Opened Up
Not a lot to shout about at Nordic Wellness Arena. Häcken and AIK cancelled each other out over the full ninety, and even with third place on the line for whoever came out on top, neither side could find the breakthrough that would’ve settled it. 0-0, and the game stayed that way pretty much from start to finish.
Häcken had won the ball back well early on and forced a couple of half-chances — Gustav Lindgren tested things from range, Mikkel Rygaard worked a few corners — but nothing really troubled AIK keeper Filip Helander in any serious way. AIK, for their part, had Simon Hestnes and Julius Lindberg both get shots away in the opening quarter hour, without much coming of either. It settled into the kind of tight, scrappy game where both sides seemed more focused on not making a mistake than actually forcing one.
Neither Side Finds the Edge
Häcken came into this off a rocky stretch — losses to Djurgården and Örgryte either side of a 2-0 win over Halmstad that steadied things a bit, with Lindgren scoring both goals in that game. There were clearly still some defensive question marks hanging over the side after conceding eight in two matches, and AIK, fresh off a win of their own over GAIS, looked to test exactly that. It just never quite came together for either team on the day. Both benches made changes through the second half trying to find something different, but the final whistle went with the scoreboard exactly where it started.
What It Means Next
A draw here means neither Häcken nor AIK move up into third, leaving that spot up for grabs for whoever can find a win in the next round. For Häcken, it’s at least a clean sheet after a leaky couple of weeks, even if the attacking spark from the Halmstad win didn’t carry over. AIK will probably view a point away from home as a fair result, given how little either side really created across the ninety.
