Both Teams Score. Not Today.
Helsingborg have scored in all four home league games this season. Average of 2.5 goals per home match.
Varberg have scored in every away game this season. Nine straight away games with at least one goal in Superettan.
0-0.
Football. It does that.
What Was at Stake
Helsingborg came in seventh with 11 points. Varberg fourth with 12. One point separated them. A win for either side moved things significantly. A win for Varberg and they were pushing toward the top two. A win for Helsingborg and they were right back in the promotion picture.
Neither team got it.
Their previous meeting in this fixture — July 28, 2025 — ended 1-2 to Varberg. The meeting before that also went the away side’s way. Helsingborg have the overall head-to-head advantage across their history but Varberg have been the dominant force in recent encounters.
Tuesday they cancelled each other out.
Helsingborg Were Missing Players
Right-back Clancy Biten suspended. Defender Femi Awodesu out. Long-term absentees still not back. An already leaky defence — 14 goals conceded in seven games — lining up with further disruption.
Their last game before this was a 2-2 draw with Oddevold where they came from two down. Before that a 3-3 with Norrby. Both teams scored. Both times Helsingborg scored enough and still could not win. The defensive problems are the pattern. A night where nothing went in at either end was, from Helsingborg’s perspective, the least bad outcome.
Ervin Gigovic is their top scorer with three goals. He was there. He did not score. Max Svensson leads the assists with six. His service was there. It produced nothing.
Varberg Were the Form Team
Three wins, two draws, one loss in seven games. Coming off a 3-0 win away at Falkenberg. The kind of dominant performance that gives players confidence going into the next fixture.
Severin Nioule is their top scorer on three. Albin Winbo leading the assists on three. The attack has been clicking. The defence has only conceded nine all season in seven games — much tighter than Helsingborg’s 14.
Isak Vidjeskog was suspended for Varberg. Their midfield lost one of its key components coming in. Whether that absence mattered tonight is impossible to say. What is clear is neither their forwards nor Helsingborg’s found a way through.
Over 2.5 goals in six of Varberg’s last seven away games. All three of their away fixtures this season had both teams scoring. Then this. A blank. A 0-0. Superettan being unpredictable, as it does.
Where Both Clubs Stand Now
Helsingborg seventh on 12 points. A point added. A win opportunity missed.
Varberg still fourth. The gap to the top narrowed by a point from the other clubs above them who may or may not have won. A draw on the road is not the worst result. It is not the best either when you came in as the form side.
Both clubs have realistic promotion ambitions. Both clubs will feel Tuesday was two points dropped rather than one gained. That is how it feels when a goalless draw happens in a game everyone expected goals.
The Olympia Stadium in Helsingborg is one of the better grounds in the Swedish second tier. Good atmosphere, proper football crowd. Tuesday the crowd went home without a goal to remember.
