Brolin Holds Firm, Then Adjei Finally Breaks Through
Hammarby showed up at Guldfågeln Arena just three days removed from crashing out of Conference League qualifying. No hangover at all, though. Controlled the game from the first whistle, pinned Kalmar back, created enough that this could’ve been out of sight before the break. Kalmar hung in there for a while, mostly down to keeper Samuel Brolin — spectacular save on a Frank Junior Adjei effort around the half-hour mark kept it level.
Adjei just kept coming, though. 42nd minute, he finally gets his goal. 1-0 right before the break. Kalmar’s debutant Alexander Almqvist wasn’t thrilled with how it had gone, admitted afterward there’s plenty to fix, pointed to careless giveaways in the attacking half as the recurring problem.
Three Goals in Fourteen Minutes
That goal flipped the whole second half. Kalmar had to push up, opened space, Hammarby tore into it. Fredrik Winther headed home a corner in the 48th minute — his first-ever goal for the club, and about as good a way to open the account as there is. Hammarby stayed on top, forced more saves out of Brolin from Madjed and Adjei, and then left-back Noah Persson finished off a slick move in the 54th minute. 3-0. Boudri had a great chance saved brilliantly not long after, then Victor Lind chipped one through for Paulos Abraham in the 61st, and Abraham slotted it home calmly for his tenth of the season. 4-0. Three goals, fourteen minutes, game over.
What It Means Next
Another statement result for Hammarby under Henrik Rydström — 16 points from a possible 18 in his first six league games in charge now, five wins, one draw, 16-2 on goal difference across that run. Four of those six games ended in clean sheets too, and somehow the attack keeps finding new ways to score. Bit of extra meaning for Rydström here as well, given his long history at Kalmar as both player and coach — went back to Guldfågeln and watched his new team put four past his old one. Hammarby have now beaten Kalmar twice this season, 6-0 combined, after also winning 2-0 in Stockholm back in July. For Kalmar, sitting just above the relegation playoff spot, it’s a rough reminder of how far off the pace they currently are.
