Mjällby 0-0 Västerås: Neither side finds a way through at Strandvallen

Mjällby vs Västerås

Not Much to Write Home About

Goalless. That’s really the whole story from Strandvallen on Friday. Mjällby and Västerås cancelled each other out for ninety minutes, and neither one’s going to look back on this game fondly. Mjällby still winless in five now. Västerås had their two-game winning run stopped dead. A point apiece, table barely moves.

Mjällby weren’t exactly flying coming into this. Lost 2-1 to AIK at home the week before, and before that a wild 4-4 draw with Sirius that probably should’ve been a win. Rough stretch. Jacob Bergström’s been carrying most of the attacking load for them all season and he needed help up top here — didn’t really get it, especially with Timo Stavitski out of the squad entirely.

Plenty of Ball, Not Much Else

Västerås walked in with the better form, off the back of beating Degerfors 2-0, Mikkel Ladefoged still banging in goals for fun this season. None of that showed up on the pitch, though. Mjällby actually controlled the game more, had close to 60% of the ball for most of it, but controlling possession and actually threatening the goal turned out to be two very different things on this particular Friday. Chances were thin on both sides. Genuinely thin — not the kind of “both teams had half-chances” 0-0, more like nobody really got close.

Referee Richard Sundell had about as quiet a night as a referee can have. Not much for him to do either.

So Where Does That Leave Things

Mjällby sit on 16 now, Västerås just below on 15 — both stuck in that mid-table zone where nothing much is decided either way. For Mjällby, it’s win number zero in six matches now, which isn’t a great look no matter how you spin it. Västerås, on the other hand, can probably take the point and move on — away form against a team that’s historically given them trouble, could’ve been worse.
