A Quiet Start, Then Girona Take Charge
Slow first ten minutes at the Municipal, not much happening either way. Then Kim Minsu took over. The South Korean winger opened the scoring with a crossed shot inside the first ten minutes, and from there Girona basically controlled the whole night, cruising to a 1-3 win over Olot in their second pre-season friendly under new boss Quique Álvarez.
Minsu wasn’t done either. He tested young Olot keeper Jordi Saucedo again not long after his goal, then turned provider for Abel Ruíz, who couldn’t quite beat Saucedo from a good chance. Right before the break, Minsu got his second of the night, finishing off an assist from Iván Martín to make it 0-2 at halftime. Two goals and an assist inside the first 45 — about as good a night as a winger could ask for.
Sarasa Adds a Third, Olot Get One Back Late
Girona picked up right where they left off after the break. Javi Sarrasa made it 0-3 early in the second half, finishing off a corner routine, and by that point the game had pretty much been decided. Olot didn’t really threaten going forward until well into the second half, when Marc Mas forced a save with a shot from distance. He got his reward soon after, though — a penalty gave him a second chance, and this time he made no mistake, pulling one back to make the final score 1-3.
What It Means Next
Good response from Girona, who’d drawn 0-0 with Al-Qadsiah in their pre-season opener under Álvarez. This one showed a lot more physicality and control from the newly relegated side, and Minsu’s performance in particular will have caught a few eyes. For Olot, who’d also lost their previous friendly 0-3 to Espanyol, it’s a tough pre-season so far, though getting a goal and a bit of late pressure against Segunda opposition isn’t the worst sign heading into the new campaign.
