One Goal Each Half Does the Job
Västerås controlled this one from start to finish, honestly could’ve had more than two by the time it was done. A goal in each half was enough to see off Örgryte at Hitachi Energy Arena on Friday, and both of them came from the same man — Axel Taonsa, back among the goals after a couple of quiet games, now up to six for the season.
Örgryte actually came into this off a decent run themselves, unbeaten in three of their last four, but they couldn’t find a way to stop Västerås dictating the tempo. Mikkel Ladefoged was back in the side after a suspension and looked sharp again alongside Taonsa up top, and the hosts had chances to settle this early — Taonsa’s first arriving well before halftime made sure they didn’t need to sweat too much through the rest of the game. Örgryte took a blow of their own in the first half too, with Christoffer Styffe forced off injured, which didn’t help their afternoon.
Taonsa Doubles Up, Jäger Holds Firm
Taonsa added his second not long after the break, and from there Västerås mostly just managed the game out, comfortable in possession and rarely troubled at the back. Keeper Elis Jäger didn’t have a great deal to do — most of Örgryte’s efforts drifted wide rather than testing him directly — but what he did face, he dealt with cleanly, picking up his third clean sheet in a row in the process. That’s a real turnaround defensively for a side that’s had its share of leaky performances earlier in the campaign.
What It Means Next
The win lifts Västerås up to a temporary fourth in the table, at least until the rest of the round plays out, continuing a strong run since the restart. For Örgryte, it’s a missed chance to climb clear of the relegation zone, and they stay down in 15th, still searching for the kind of away form that’s eluded them for a while now.
