Total Control, No Goals to Show for It
Hammarby had this one wrapped up for long stretches without actually having anything to show for it. They dominated possession from the first whistle at Grimsta, pinned BP back inside their own box for most of the first half, and coach Henrik Rydström said afterward he hadn’t expected the hosts to be pushed back quite that far. Didn’t matter how much of the ball they had, though — no goal came, and BP somehow held on at 0-0 through the break.
Second half, more of the same story. Hammarby kept probing, kept working the ball into dangerous areas, and BP kept throwing bodies in the way. Rydström made a double change just after the hour mark, bringing on Nahir Besara and Noah Persson, and about ten minutes after that, debutant Amin Boudri came on too. It took until the 79th minute for the breakthrough to finally arrive, and when it did, it was worth the wait — Victor Lind, clearly getting a bit impatient with all the probing, drove past a couple of defenders himself and smashed a shot into the top corner that the keeper had no chance with. Sixth goal of the season for Lind, and Boudri, fresh off the bench, was involved in the buildup.
Then It Slips Away
For a few minutes it looked like the perfect story — dominant performance, late winner, three points. Then, deep into stoppage time, BP won a free-kick — caused, as it happens, by Boudri himself — and Andreas Troelsen, the BP centre-back who’s quietly been chipping in more goals than people give him credit for, rose to head it home. Third of the season for Troelsen, and it meant Hammarby’s whole night ended in frustration instead of celebration. Lind didn’t hide his annoyance afterward, saying the result was on them given how many chances they’d had to put the game to bed long before it ever got to that stage.
What It Means Next
The draw means Hammarby miss the chance to keep pace with runaway leaders Sirius, who now sit eleven points clear with a game in hand — a gap that’s starting to look serious. Hammarby do at least hold onto second place heading into next week’s break. For Brommapojkarna, missing both Oliver Berg and Mads Hansen to suspension, it’s a huge point picked up against the run of play, and one that takes them a step away from the relegation fight. Hammarby are back in action against Häcken on 9 August, while BP travel to Malmö on 2 August.
